What foods to eat when bodybuilding
Hello, so how and what are you supposed to eat when trying to get the body of a bodybuilder? I heard protein is all they eat? Do you want to eat fats when building muscle?
These questions are very common amoungst people starting out their gym routines and programmes. It's important to maintain the idea of that your food is your fuel. If you gave a car the wrong or dirty fuel it would'nt run of would run very inefficiently. You therefore need to ensure that the food you eat is healthy and suits your needs.
So firstly protein, the main ingrediant in muscle growth, amino acid synthesis and muscle repair. Protein shakes are obviously not a substitute for protein from food, and should only be taken when food is not an option, e.g. before after gym and right before bed. A standard source of protein i'm sure you are familiar with is meats, and fish. With a standard protein amount of 20g in 100g of the meat. Other sources include nuts, cottage cheese, and avacado etc. For each meal you want to be eating 30-50g of protein depending on your body size, for every 1lb of your weight you should be eating 1.2g of protein.
It's also important to eat plenty of carbohydrates and fats. They are the bodys main energy source, with fats providing twice as much energy per gram than carbs. Combined these should make up 65% of your diet, with the remaining 35% being protein. Carbs come in two forms, simply and complex it's good to eat more complex forms in meals, such as pasta and rice. Then take simple ones (sugars) before exercise.
So what meals to eat, well basically the world is your oyster. You need to find 6 meals a day that satisfy taste and needs, just because your eating alot doesn't mean it has to be disgusting. It's important to mix things up and keep a good balance, on top of this you should also check
for supplementation tips.
